While this Mission District bakery draws lines for its amazing pastries, we think the real star is its country loaf sourdough, a monster bâtard with gorgeous lacy crumb and nuanced flavors that roll on and on. Also remarkable is its keeping power: Throw it in a breadbox and it’ll keep fresh for a week. Tartine only bakes bread Wednesdays through Sundays and it's only available for sale once it comes out of the oven just before 5:00pm; they accept pre-orders three days in advance.
