Seventh Tea Bar

Costa Mesa, California
Owners Jeff and Christa Duggan named their Seventh Tea Bar based on a Chinese folk adage that declares tea to be the last of the seven daily necessities. (FYI, the others are firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.) The pair, creators of Portola, Orange County’s craft coffee mecca, chose cozy-modern for the decor (bright yellow walls, shiny metal teapots) and the menu (thoughtfully selected brews from “vegetal” Sencha Kyoto green tea to woody pu-erh to lemon ginger). The bar also updates the tea sandwich with choices like the Macho Man--thick-cut salami, cheddar, and onion. Try nibbling that with your pinkies up.
