It started with the opening of the Ritz-Carlton, and it seems like every year since, Northstar has gotten fancier and shmancier. Owner Vail Resorts has sunk $30 million into this mountain outside of Truckee. And what it lacks in lake views it makes up for in top-notch amenities for the whole family—from a fabulous ski school and firepit-surrounded village ice rink for kids to the snow-cat and guided backcountry skiing for hardcore adults.
