Chef Sarah Kirnon summons the flavors of her native Barbados at Miss Ollie’s, a casual restaurant in Swan’s Market downtown. Dinner entrees might include chickpeas simmered in a complex curry; baked pork shoulder with spicy sauce chien; or salt fish with litchi-like ackee, a fiery seafood and fruit dish that was a childhood staple for Kirnon. The menu changes daily, but you can always count on two things: the quenching power of her hibiscus cooler (a refreshing counterpoint to the five-alarm heat of the housemade hot sauce) and the famous fried chicken, which would cause a rebellion if it came off the menu.
