Chef Sarah Kirnon summons the flavors of her native Barbados at Miss Ollie’s, a casual new restaurant in Swan’s Market downtown. Order at the counter, grab a number and a seat, and await the arrival of chickpeas simmered in a complex curry; baked pork shoulder with spicy sauce chien; or salt fish with litchi-like ackee, a fiery seafood and fruit dish that was a childhood staple for Kirnon. Each day of the week brings a special dish (curry goat Wednesday!), but you can always count on the quenching power of her hibiscus cooler, a refreshing counterpoint to the five-alarm heat of the housemade hot sauce.
