Chef Jet Tila, whose family opened the first Thai market in the U.S., has long been taking pals like Anthony Bourdain on eating tours of his hometown hood in East Hollywood. Now he’s widening his inner circle by offering that same food crawl to groups of 15 each month, with Melting Pot Food Tours. On the three-block walk, you can sample his favorite Thai Town bites, including what he deems the best green papaya salad in America, spicy pork dishes, a bowl of jade noodles, and a box of dessert goodies to go. Tila also teaches a few Thai phrases and how to avoid making common faux pas, such as requesting chopsticks if you’re not eating noodles. The tour includes a visit to a Thai spirit house, with a blessing at the four-faced Buddha—a fitting pause in a sinfully delicious day.
