In 1946, Johnnie Armijo was a teenager when his father opened Johnnie’s Cash Store. Now, this mom-and-pop grocery is a local institution, stocked with no-frills staples and the best homemade green-chile chicken or red pork tamales in town ($2), warmed in a steamer right beside the register. Buy a couple and head two blocks north to Monsignor Patrick Smith Park, on the Santa Fe River, for a picnic.
