When Christian Nardi heard that the Borders near her house was closing, she took action. “I can’t raise my kids in a town where I can’t buy them books,” says the mother of two. And she isn’t. in winter 2011, she opened Bee Hive, the only bookstore in the city that caters exclusively to kids. Shelves brim with Caldecott winners, glossy picture classics, and the latest teen cult favorites—one of which recently had middle-schoolers in the Bee Hive Book Club learning archery in the store’s front yard.
