Badmaash--Hindi for “rascal”--is making a name for itself as downtown’s first Indian gastropub. Picture a Mumbai street food/craft brewery blend, with standout combos like masala fries smothered in chicken tikka and cheese curds, short rib samosas with charred pineapple and cilantro, and spiced lamb burger served on a brioche bun. If you dare, order the fiery ghost-chile lamb vindaloo. Wash it all down with a beer from the hefty list—perhaps California’s Golden Road Hefeweisen—or a bottle of hard-to-find Thums Up, an Indian cola. With their father, Pawan Mahendro (former chef-owner of Jaipur Grille in Toronto, Ontario), handling the kitchen, brothers Nakul and Arjun have created a sleek, casual Indian eatery in a two-story space showcasing vintage Bollywood posters and Warholesque images of Gandhi rocking brightly colored shades.
