Hear that? Absolute silence. At the Armstrong Redwoods State National Reserve, an 805-acre grove of old-growth sequoias just north of town, it’s everywhere. Savor the solitude as you crane your neck trying to find the tops of trees 300 feet tall—and 1,400 years old! As huge as the park is, it’s fairly easy to navigate. Get an eyeful on the mostly flat 1 1/2-mile Pioneer Nature Trail.
