Like a Mad Men set in San Francisco’s Mission District, Bodhi Freedom’s recent venture (he also owns Bacchus Wine Bar on Russian Hill) with co-owner Peter Goggin is furnished along the lines of a midcentury living room. At a bar of reclaimed eucalyptus, Freedom favors food-friendly, Old World–style wines (from as far as Piedmont, Italy, and as close as Paso Robles, California) to match a small-plates menu replete with house-cured meats, homemade pickles, and preserves. If you’re lucky, you’ll stop by when Freedom is spinning choice cuts from his vinyl collection, a fitting turn for a space that used to be a record store.
