Sunset
Centennial
Commemorative Poster
A sampling of covers from the magazine's first four decades captures the history and romance of the West.
Most of Sunset's early covers sported original artwork, before the magazine turned to an all-photography format in 1936. See Halley's comet burst through the night over San Francisco (April 1910), or watch Santa lean on his ax amid giant sequoias (December 1916). Themes recur: cowboys and cowgirls riding the range, motorists on tour, boats and ships, Native Americans. All vividly celebrate the wonders of the West.
We have chosen many of our favorite historic covers and created a 24"x36" poster.
