How do I subscribe, renew, or give a gift subscription to Sunset?

Gift subscriptions will be mailed within six to eight weeks after receipt of order. If you specify your gift is for Christmas, the subscription will start with the January issue.

How can I tell when my Sunset subscription is going to expire?
To find your expiration date, look at the upper right-hand corner of your label. You'll find the month and year of expiration abbreviated.

Your mailing label also contains other valuable information concerning your subscription. If you ever have a question or problem, be sure to include a current mailing label in your correspondence to us to ensure prompt attention and fast service.

I'm moving. How can I make sure my Sunset subscription moves with me?
To ensure that your Sunset subscription continues without delay when you move, use our change of address form or send us your current label (with your old address), as well as providing us with your new address. Please give us eight weeks advance notice.

One of my Sunset issues was never delivered. What should I do?
The first issue of your subscription is mailed to you within six to eight weeks of order receipt. Thereafter, you should receive each issue a week prior to the cover date (for example, your May issue will arrive the last week in April). If an issue is missing or over two weeks late - due to error or postal delivery problems - write us and we'll try to replace the missing issue, supplies permitting.

What do I do if I have a problem with my subscription?
If there is ever a problem with your Sunset subscription, please inform us in writing immediately or call our toll-free number: 1-800-777-0117.
Remember to enclose your mailing label (or print your name and address exactly as they appear on the label.) To ensure prompt delivery, include your apartment number. In the case of a billing error, be sure to include your invoice so we can locate your file quickly. Correction procedures will begin immediately, although some problems may take longer to resolve than others. You can expect a reply from subscriber services within four to five weeks.

I've heard that some magazines make their mailing lists available to other publications. Does Sunset do this?
We share our subscribers' names with companies whose products we feel would be of interest. Many of our subscribers enjoy these opportunities to shop for merchandise, subscribe to unique publications, or take advantage of special offers and events.
If you would like to receive catalogs and information from a variety of sources, you need do nothing. If, however, you would like your name excluded from these mailings, please send your mailing label and a note stating your request to:

Where is Sunset Publishing located?
Sunset Publishing is located in Menlo Park, California, approximately 60 minutes south of San Francisco and 40 minutes north of San Jose via U.S. 101. See map.

How do I get there?
From Highway 101 in Menlo Park, take Willow Road 1 mile west to the intersection of Willow and Middlefield Roads. Sunset is across the intersection on the left. Parking is available in front of the building. See map.

Can I tour Sunset's garden?
The gardens are normally open for a self-guided walking tour 9 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, except holidays. The gardens are closed in mid-May each year due to Celebration Weekend. Please call (650) 321-3600 if you have questions. For more on the gardens, click here.

When is the best time of year to visit the garden?
There is always something to see in Sunset's garden. The flower beds are replanted at least three times a year and there are more than 300 kinds of shrubs, trees, vines, ground covers, annuals, and perennials in the garden at any given time. However, springtime is an especially colorful time to visit.

Is the Sunset garden handicapped accessible?
Yes, the Sunset gardens are open to visitors in wheelchairs and motorized carts. A flat, paved path allows easy access. Wheelchairs are also available for guests who may need assistance.

How do I arrange an educational tour for my school group?
Docent-led tours of the garden are available for school children in grades two through five. Tours are by reservation only and times are limited. Please call the reservation hotline at (650) 324-5400.

Are Sunset's facilities available for private rental?
No. Except for access to the lobby and main garden, Sunset's facilities are closed to the public.

How can I get a copy of a past article or recipe?
If the article was published since January 1997, you can search for it using the travel, garden, home, or food search engines.

To request a photocopy of an older article or recipe that appeared in Sunset magazine, fill out our online form. Describe the subject in detail, including the approximate month and year of publication. Don't forget to include your name and address in your request.

How do I order multiple reprints of an article?
Large orders (a thousand or more) require a separate press run with cost dependent on quantity and length of story. Reprints of this size usually cost $2,000 up. How can I get a back issue?
Back issues are available starting from 1971 and cost $6 apiece. Be sure to specify which issue you'd like. You will automatically be sent the regional edition normally mailed to your zip code; if you require a different edition, please indicate which of our five Western regional editions you prefer (Northern California, Southern California, Northwest, Southwest, or Mountain States).

Where can I buy magazine slipcases?
Sunset sells library quality slipcases (each holds 12 issues) for $9.95 apiece and acrylic cases for $19.95 apiece. Please address your request to Slipcase Orders and enclose a check or money order (California residents add sales tax).

How can I get a magazine index?
Sunset prepares an annual index for all articles appearing in the calendar year. You can view and search the indexes for 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. Printed copies of indexes for 1968 - 2002 are $4.95 apiece (California residents add applicable sales tax). Don't forget to specify desired quantity and year. How do I submit a recipe?

Include your full name, street address, phone number, and the story behind the recipe. If your recipe is published, you'll receive a "Great Cook" certificate and $100.

How do I submit a story idea?

Write a brief paragraph about your travel suggestion or send us a description and snapshot of your completed home, craft, or garden project.
