To qualify for membership, builders must meet key criteria, as defined
by Sunset's editorial staff and home group, including:
-- Produce homes that are thoughtfully and imaginatively designed to fit
their climate and site; for example, take advantage of opportunities for
easy indoor-outdoor living.
-- Take environmentally responsible approaches to building and
development, such as urban infill-projects, green-building standards and
concepts of sustainability.
-- Maintain the highest construction and energy efficiency standards,
including energy–efficient products, appliances, heating & cooling
systems, and window systems that will lead to lower operating costs for
homeowners.
-- Incorporate design principles that promote efficient use of interior
space.
-- Enjoy an excellent customer service reputation.
-- Agree to review sponsor products for possible use in homes they build.

It is the recommendation of Sunset that in choosing any builder,
including our members, that you ask for the following information;
--Ask to see their builder's license and proof of insurance.
--Ask for references. Speak to their homeowners, suppliers and lenders.
--Make sure that all warranties are in writing.
--Check with your local Better Business Bureau.
