Sunset Magazine, in a joint venture with Tahoe Mountain Resorts (a division of East West Partners and developers of Northstar CA, Beaver Creek CO, Deer Valley UT), created a 2007 Idea House that celebrates Lake Tahoe's historic lodges, barns, and mountain vistas.

Located just outside the railroad town of Truckee, the Sunset Idea House overlooks the 18th hole on a Peter Jacobsen/Jim Hardy golf course in Gray's Crossing. The home offers storage solutions for Tahoe winter equipment such as skis, snowboards, and show shoes as well as a summer sanctuary for basking in the sun.
Key features included an expansive hearth, a covered year-round outdoor kitchen and dining area, and an outdoor tub next to a two-sided fireplace. The design implemented Sierra-based colors and use of stone, recycled wood timbers, and contemporary mountain designs.
