The Integrated Waste Management Board believes that everyone deserves to enjoy a work, school, recreational, and home environment that is comfortable, energy efficient, well lit, and water wise—an environment that promotes good health, good grades, and stewardship of our natural resources. Sustainable design and green building practices create exactly these kinds of interior and exterior spaces.
These practices also help to reduce waste and create markets for recycled-content building materials—goals of the California Integrated Waste Management Board’s Zero Waste California initiative.
Part of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA), the Board is a member of the state’s Sustainable Building Task Force and provides leadership and assistance in sustainable design and green building to the construction industry and local government through services such as:
• Resources for environmentally preferable building products and supplies
• Training in green building methods and practices
• Product research and materials selection
• Reducing construction/demolition waste
• Information and education about waste prevention
• Development of recycling-based businesses
• Organic materials management
The Board is a proud partner in Sunset’s 2005 Green-Built Idea House. This partnership will establish that green building practices are affordable and make sense for both home builders and homeowners.
