RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial
• Oversee budgeting process across business. Work with department heads from inception of budget process to develop realistic budgets; work with Corporate financial staff, executive and senior management to develop overall acceptable level of company profitability
• Present and deliver final budget package to Corporate management and lead budget review meetings
• Oversee salary budgeting and planning process, including bonus calculations
• Oversee monthly close process and provide executive and senior management with feedback on key changes in business on a timely basis
• Direct and lead Corporate accounting to ensure all Sunset Publishing financial requirements are met
• Review internal reports and monthly narrative for Corporate business highlights report
• Prepare and report key budget analyses to management throughout the year
• Oversee and direct Sunset Publishing expenditures and implement ideas/actions to control spending
• Recruit, hire and manage department staff and guide employee development
• Act as key financial liaison to outside vendors
Business Development
• Work closely with the President to implement the business development strategy, business plan, targets and tactics to grow Sunset business
• Prospect, develop relationships, establish business and generate ongoing opportunities with new clients
• Prepare presentations, financial projections and strategic analysis including cost/benefits analysis, developing financial models and implementation of processes and operational infrastucture
QUALIFICATIONS
• A clear understanding of what our brand stands for and a shared passion for the same beliefs
• BS degree in Finance or relevant field and 7+ years Finance work experience
• Familiarity of all of the key functional areas of magazine publishing
• Expert understanding of accounting principles
• Well honed professional skills as a financial analyst
• Ability to present financial data in a way that supports the information presented
• Ability to clearly explain financial concepts so that non-finance personnel can competently prepare budget and estimate data
• Extremely detail oriented and well organized
• Work under deadline pressure and frequent time constraints
• Strong interpersonal skills to interface with entire corporate staff
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PeopleSoft (or similar database software program)
