Tools with detachable heads
Many tools in one

If you'd like to upgrade your collection of garden tools but don't have much storage space, check out the sleek new line of Interlocken tools made in Germany by Wolf-Garten. This mix-and-match system gives you the option of using a single aluminum or wood handle with your choice of 28 detachable heads that perform a variety of tasks.

For example, we tried an aluminum handle paired with three heads: a grubber, a hoe, and a rake — a package that retails for about $48. The line also includes edgers and weeders. Made of strong, chromium-galvanized steel, the heads attach to the handle with a snap-and-lock device. The tools are ergonomically designed to reduce back strain.

The handles range in price from $10 for a standard aluminum or wood shaft to $33 for an extra-long telescoping aluminum shaft. The heads run from $8 for a scuffle hoe to $42 for a lawn-edge trimmer.

Look for Interlocken tools at Lowe's and other garden centers. Or order online at www.omygarden.com.
