Planting and caring for berries and grapes
Growing your own berries and grapes gives you a varied harvest of luscious fruit at its vine-ripened best.
Selection
Most berries produce a substantial yield from relatively few plants, and most can be integrated attractively into the landscape.
Strawberries make a nice edging for a vegetable bed; they're good looking in large containers, too. Blueberries are handsome shrubs with appealing spring flowers and colorful fall foliage. Grapes are classics for cloaking arbors to create a shady hideaway; blackberries and raspberries can be trained to mask a boring or unattractive fence.
For each kind of berry, you'll find a huge selection of varieties, differing widely in their climate preferences. For help in choosing the best kinds for your area, consult a local nursery or your Cooperative Extension Office.
