Vegas’ big mystery

A big 'Wynn' in Las Vegas

Lisa Taggart,

It’s hard to keep a $2.7 billion secret. But casino-resort developer Steve Wynn is known for remarkable things. On April 28, Wynn Las Vegas is scheduled to open on the former site of the Desert Inn. And the question is: Just what is behind that 50-story shimmery bronze exterior? Like earlier Wynn projects―the Mirage, Treasure Island, and the Bellagio―this development has been shrouded in mystery. Project organizers declined interviews but confirmed that the resort will have an 18-hole golf course; two theaters, including one hosting the Tony award-winning musical Avenue Q; and 18 restaurants.

Promoters say the resort will be “refreshingly elegant” and “tranquil.” Will calm and quiet be the new Vegas? We’ll have to wait and see. 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. S.; www.wynnlasvegas.com or 877/321-9966.
