This Brilliant Tape Turns Anything into a Lego-Friendly Surface

This is a genius invention

Mahita Gajanan

A new adhesive tape from the design studio Nimuno will let you take your Lego designs to a whole new level.

The flexible tape, which can be cut and molded to your liking, can transform any surface into a Lego-friendly space. The adhesive can stick on most surfaces and has Lego bumps on one side. Want to build an upside down city? Mount a castle to a wall? The possibilities are basically endless.

Check it out here:

Created by Anine Kirsten and Max Basler, industrial designers based in Cape Town, South Africa, the tape product is currently only in prototype stage, as they aim to raise money to manufacture the tape through Indiegogo. Nimuno’s stated goal through the crowdfunding campaign was $8,000, and has blown past that with more than $100,000 as of Tuesday.

“Imagine being able to build around corners, on curved surfaces, or even onto the sides of that sailing ship you’ve just spent hours building,” Nimuno wrote on its crowdfunding page. “You forgot to engineer a point of attachment for that sweet dinosaur-smashing cannon? No problem.”

According to the crowdfunding campaign, Kirsten and Basler focus on “toys that engage children with the physical world and encourage creativity.”

You can preorder the tape, which is expected to ship in July, here. Fifty dollars will get you 10 rolls of blue and red tape (five each). Prices for the product vary between $11 (which buys two rolls) to $2,000, a distributor perk rate that yields 900 rolls of tape.

“With your contributions we want to create a thriving business based right here in Cape Town that makes the world a better, kinder and more creative place,” Nimuno wrote. “Where no child is left playing inside and where Lego is everywhere!”
