These Campsites Still Have Space Left for the Eclipse but Not for Long

There are almost 700 campsites in the path of totality that are still available

The total solar eclipse is less than two weeks away and hotels are running out of rooms — and charging some very high rates. There may still be a few Airbnbs left within the path of totality, but those will get quickly scooped up, too.

Luckily, for those who don’t mind forgoing a few creature comforts, there are almost 700 campsites across the country that still have room.

Hipcamp made an interactive map of 677 campsites across the country where travelers can stay to get a glimpse at this year’s total solar eclipse as it passes through the sky. Campers within the 70-mile-wide path will be able to watch the daytime sky turn dark as the moon passes directly in front of the sun.

Campers can search for a site based on location, price or desired amenities. Possible places to pitch tent include national parks, a farm for retired horses, lakeside, sand dunes, national forests, a rehab for injured or orphaned deer or scenic farms. Some of these locations are exclusive and temporary and will only be open to campers in the days leading up to the eclipse.

Before booking a camping location, be sure to research at exactly what time the eclipse will pass overhead.

Hipcamp is continually looking to add new camping locations as we approach the eclipse. Anybody who lives within the path of totality can register to host campers if they’ve got an extra patch of land and make some money during the eclipse.
