Extra large lot

Generously sized, this 50- by 200-foot lot located in East Manhattan Beach will transform into our 2014 L.A. Idea House. The 4,600-square-foot modern coastal home features light-filled, spacious interiors designed to open to the outdoors.

Living the dream

Manhattan Beach is the quintessential California beach town. Its two-mile stretch of oceanfront is a destination for beach volleyball, surfing, pier fishing, and people-watching.

Light-filled spaces

The home’s voluminous, 26-foot high entry is washed in light cast from the abundant Kolbe windows and Velux skylights.

Making a statement

The first step in the wood staircase will be made of marble, setting an elegant mood when guests enter the home.

Kitchen and great room

DISC consults with South Bay Stone about the surround for the fireplace in the great room. Just behind them is the kitchen and dining areas. The entire space opens onto an outdoor dining room and kitchen.

Textured neutrals

Plans for the kitchen include bright white walls painted with Behr Paint and light oak floors topped with dark cabinetry. Handmade Moroccan-style tile from

Cle Tile in Sausalito adds a touch of patina and texture to the backsplash wall.

Dressing the windows

The interior designers meet with Smith+Noble to plan and measure for the many window coverings throughout the home. Window treatments are a signature design element in DISC projects.

The ultimate master bath

Framing is complete for the extra-spacious master shower, which will feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a Kohler DTV digital shower, which enables users to program individual preferences for water temperature, spray intensity, and angle of water delivery.

Outdoor living spaces

Large expanses of bifold windows open up to extend the living spaces in the back of the home to the outdoors. Plans call for an outdoor dining room, kitchen, conversation pit, no-mow lawn, and essential to Southern California, a swimming pool. Retractable awnings made with Sunbrella fabric will provide cooling shade to the seating areas just off the great room and kitchen.
