STAY

An aerial view of The Limelight Hotel.

Limelight Hotels

The Limelight Hotel is ideal because it’s “located in the heart of downtown Ketchum, so you don’t need a car to get around. There are heaps of dining and shopping options all within a few blocks.” They “also have complimentary shuttle services to and from the airport and to the mountain. Bonus: They’re dog-friendly, there’s live music on the regular, and the lounge is great for letting the kids roam.”

EAT

Diners at The Covey.

Ray J. Gadd/Visit Sun Valley

“Chef Jesse Sheue crafts rotating menus with freshly made pastas and wood-fired entrées that fit the mountain-town vibe perfectly at The Covey. The cocktails are top-notch, and local artisan craftsmanship is woven throughout the restaurant from the tables to the artwork. Enoteca is my other favorite, especially in the winter. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, and they boast the best wine list in town.“

DRINK

Après-ski drinks at The Roundhouse.

Sun Valley Resort

“After dinner, I like to grab a cocktail and sit on the Warfield Distillery & Brewery patio. All their organic beers and spirits are made in-house, and the patio has one of the best views in town. Try their seasonal spicy margarita. It’s my favorite! On-hill, check out The Roundhouse for spectacular views and an unbeatable spritz. Pair it with a pot of fondue and you will have nailed my perfect day in Sun Valley!“

DO

Backcountry skiing.

Ray J. Gadd/Visit Sun Valley

“The surrounding area has limitless backcountry access catering to all levels and abilities of skiing and snowboarding. Just be sure you’re avalanche-certified. If you don’t have the background, hire a guide from Sun Valley Guides or Sawtooth Mountain Guides. Or, if you aren’t ready for the deep backcountry, head north to Galena Lodge for cross-country skiing or sledding with kids, followed by delicious homemade lunch. I love to unwind from a busy day of work or adventuring with a massage at Zenergy. When your treatment is done, you can use the saltwater pool, salt sauna, or eucalyptus steam rooms.“

SHOP

Clothing and gear at Sturtevants.

Ray J. Gadd/Visit Sun Valley

Sturtevants is the go-to sporting goods shop in town for downhill and backcountry ski gear. They carry a variety of niche and common brands, including Wild Rye. Also, check out the Backwoods, Pete Lane’s, Elephants Perch, and Trailhead in Hailey.“
