Echeverias encircle a water bowl. The rosettes have a crisply defined shape that provides drama and echoes the bowl's circular form. But they're small and monochromatic, which keeps the design simple.

Only four plants were used in this bed: Mexican blue palm, bronze New Zealand flax, and two groundcovers, Carex testacea and blue Senecio mandraliscae.

To give this small fountain more presence, the designer created a mini garden around it using billowy grasses, fleshy succulents, and showy orchids.
