Guy Fieri takes camp cooking seriously

“We used to keep a camping box ready to go,” he says, remembering how he and wife Lori used to hit the road with their two young sons. “It had everything in it: knives, pans, pasta, olive oil, spices, matches, Sterno, paper towels.

All we had to do was pack our clothes, grab our sleeping bags, and stop on the way for a protein to cook.” Fieri, host of Food Network shows Guy’s Big Bite and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, grew up camping (his first trip was at the tender age of 6 months). These days, his camping box has been replaced by easy-to-use portable grills and a comfy RV, but he’s no less dedicated to cooking outdoors.

The trick to doing it well, he’s learned, is to plan and prep at home.
