Quicker couscous

Quick-cooking couscous makes an easy side dish. But there's an even simpler way to make it.

Most recipes have you add couscous to a pot of boiling liquid, then take it off the heat. However, it's just as easy to pour the uncooked grains directly into your serving bowl, then add the boiling liquid. Stir, cover tightly with foil, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Uncover, fluff with a fork, and you're done.

Note: This method is best for plain couscous. If you plan to add vegetables or sauce, avoid mess by making it in a pot.
